Community Based Programmes PDF Print E-mail

ANPPCAN Kenya has two such programmes; one in Soweto, Nairobi and another in Lower Ambira, Nyanza Province.

The Soweto programme aims to raise awareness and sensitize members of the community on child abuse & neglect and the legal rights of the child.

The Lower Ambira Programme seeks to mitigate the impact of HIV/AIDS on young children and protects the rights of children affected by HIV/AIDS.

  Soweto Child Protection and Development Programme

The Soweto Child Development and Protection Programme has the overall objective of improving the welfare of children in Soweto and enhancing opportunities for the development of their full potential. Specifically, the project aims to create awareness on the rights of the child as per the local and international instruments of child protection; and to provide social and legal support to children in need of the services or those acting on their behalf.

Lower Ambira Community Child Development Programme (LACCDP)

The Goal of the project is to contribute to the wellbeing of children between the ages of 0-8 years affected and infected by HIV/AIDS in Kenya through Early Childhood Development programmes. Its main objective is to enhance community based care and support systems and protection of children aged 0-8 years in families affected by HIV/AIDS in Ambira Sub-location of Siaya District, Nyanza Province.

The programme which has been running since October 2003 has established and strengthened community run day care centres and nursery school (ECED centre) for children between 0-8 years; provided psychosocial support and bolstering income generating ventures to enhance food security and household incomes to  ultimately benefit children affected by HIV/AIDS.
