Legal Services PDF Print E-mail

The legal department was, initially, part of the Child Rights Awareness and Legal Education Programme (CRALEP) that was at one time implemented by ANPPCAN Kenya in Korogocho- a non-formal settlement community on the outskirts of Nairobi known for gross violations of children’s rights.

However, growing demands for the legal services from both the government, non-governmental organisations and the general public increased the need to institutionalise Children’s Rights Legal Aid into a Department within ANPPCAN Kenya.

The aim is to promote the legal rights of the child and to provide legal assistance and protection to children or those acting on their behalf.

Objectives

  • Promote legal rights of the child
  • Provide legal assistance and protection to children (or those acting on their behalf) who are victims of abuse and neglect or who are in conflict with the law
  • To monitor cases involving children as they pass through Kenya ’s judicial systems

Activities and services

  • Paralegal education
  • Research and advocacy
  • Provision of legal aid in the form of advice and litigation
  • Planning and conducting periodic Consultative Meetings law enforcement agencies to share information.
  • Making frequent Court appearances at the Children’s and High Courts
  • Traveling to areas of ANPPCAN Kenya activities to supervise and evaluate the effectiveness of legal services and advocacy materials provided by ANPPCAN.
