Introduction

Information and documentation department is central to all ANPPCAN Kenya Chapter programmes and strategies.  It ensures timely, accurate and targeted information within ANPPCAN Kenya Chapter and with external parties.  The department hosts the resource centre, collects, classifies, analyses and disseminates information on issues affecting children in Kenya

ANPPCAN Kenya’s staff, collaborating partners, Community Based Organisations and the general public can access this modest but highly specialised collection of information materials. Under the programme, research on issues affecting children is also conducted.

The department also hosts the ANPPCAN Kenya Chapter interactive website from which issues of child abuse and neglect can also be reported confidentially.

Through its activities, the department achieves ANPPCAN Kenya’s key goal of extending its reach and increasing its impact in Kenya and abroad.

Achievements

  • Over 5,000 publications on children’s rights and a growing number of audio-visual materials available in the resource centre for public access
  • Development and production of the ANPPCAN Kenya thematic calendars every year
  • Production of information, education and communication materials for various project/programs undertaken by the organization
  • In 2004, the Department in collaboration with TransWorld Radio developed and launched a children's radio programme, Vijana Jumamosi, aired on national radio; Kenya Broadcasting Corporation every Saturday from 5 P.M. to 6 P.M.
  • In 2005 the department spearheaded the publication of a handbook titled ‘From physical punishment to positive discipline: Alternatives to physical/corporal punishment in Kenya ’. This is an advocacy document that is based on a study   commissioned by ANPPCAN Kenya Chapter in 2003 on the effects of corporal punishment.

Prospects

The department is planning to re-launch the quarterly newsletter, child update. The newsletter will be in electronic manual format.
